About Me

Dr. Diem Phan is a Licensed Psychologist who has proudly served the Denver Metro community for almost 15 years. She provides comprehensive behavioral health, psychological testing, and psychopharmacology services with a commitment to delivering thoughtful, evidence-based, and compassionate care. Her work integrates psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and medication management to support meaningful, lasting change and whole-person wellness.

Dr. Phan earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English from the University of Iowa and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Washington State University. She completed her Pre-Doctoral Internship at the University of Notre Dame Counseling Center, where she developed specialized training in mind-body therapeutic approaches and integrative mental health care.

Over the course of her career, Dr. Phan has developed extensive experience across a wide range of clinical settings, including university counseling centers, community mental health centers, state psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment programs, and outpatient and private practice environments. These diverse experiences have shaped her comprehensive and nuanced understanding of mental health across the lifespan and across varying levels of clinical complexity.

Dr. Phan is extensively trained in empirically-supported and clinically-effective therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She is particularly passionate about ACT, which focuses on increasing psychological flexibility and helping individuals develop a more open, accepting, and values-driven relationship with their thoughts and emotions. Through these approaches, she helps patients reduce emotional suffering while building the skills necessary to live fuller, more meaningful, and more engaged lives.

She is also comprehensively trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), including advanced training through the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program. EMDR is a highly effective, evidence-based treatment for trauma and other conditions in which past experiences continue to affect present functioning. This specialized training allows Dr. Phan to help patients safely and effectively process traumatic experiences and restore emotional balance and nervous system regulation.

In addition to her psychotherapy and testing/evaluation expertise, Dr. Phan completed an advanced Post-Doctoral Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and she will soon become one of the first Prescribing Psychologists in Colorado. Under the supervision of Board-Certified Psychiatrist, Dr. Craig Heacock, M.D., she provides psychopharmacological care for adolescents and adults with ADHD, mood disorders including treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, OCD, and bipolar disorders. Her approach to medication management is careful, collaborative, and integrated with psychotherapy to support optimal outcomes. Research consistently supports that prescribing psychologists provide safe, effective, and evidence-based medication management. Dr. Phan's unique dual training in psychological science and psychopharmacology allows her to offer thoughtful, individualized care. She is honored to be a part of a very small group of providers in the state contributing to the changing landscape of care in behavioral health medicine and psychopharmacology.

Dr. Phan also devotes a significant portion of her practice to comprehensive psychological testing and diagnostic evaluations. She utilizes a Therapeutic Assessment model, a collaborative and insight-oriented approach that not only clarifies diagnosis but also helps individuals gain a deeper understanding of themselves. This process empowers patients to use their assessment results as a foundation for growth, healing, and more effective coping.

Dr. Phan is certified by the PSYPACT Commission as an Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) Psychologist. This credential allows her to provide telehealth services across over 43 participating states, increasing access to high-quality care. At the heart of Dr. Phan’s work is a deep respect for each individual’s unique experiences, strengths, and goals. She is committed to helping her patients develop insight, resilience, and practical skills that support lasting emotional health, stability, and wellbeing.

Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Phan enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and dog; being with family and friends; playing competitive tennis; snowboarding; road biking; reading; attending theatrical and musical performances; exercising; spending time outdoors; creating meaningful keepsakes for her son; and traveling to explore new places. She is also involved with the Colorado Psychological Association, sitting on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors as well as the Legislative Committee for the RxP Division to assist in making meaningful changes for providers to practice in CO.
